What is a Parent Visa?

The Parent Visa Program allows parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents to migrate and live with their children in Australia. There are several visa options available depending on how long your parents wish to stay, their age, and your sponsorship eligibility.

Types of Parent Visas

1. Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143 & 173)

  • The Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa – Subclass 173 allows parents to live in Australia for up to 2 years.
  • The Contributory Parent (Permanent) Visa – Subclass 143 offers permanent residency after the temporary stage or direct application.
  • These visas require a higher application fee but are processed faster than non-contributory options.

2. Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

  • A permanent residency visa for parents of settled Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  • It has a lower application fee but a longer processing time (often several years).

3. Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)

  • For aged parents who are already in Australia and meet the pension age requirements.
  • Allows them to stay in Australia while their permanent visa is being processed.

4. Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 864 & 884)

  • For aged parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  • The Subclass 884 is temporary (valid for 2 years), while the Subclass 864 provides permanent residency.
  • These visas are processed more quickly than the non-contributory aged parent visa.
